2023 ext-STRAW-anary

Attendees to the 2022 Show and Sale were issued a creative challenge. Take straws and/or drink stirs of any size, create something using them, and bring it to the 2023 Show for display. Those who accepted the challenge were entered in The People’s Choice Award and won free entry to the Sale.

2023 Take and Make People's Choice Award Winner

The A-straw-nomy Tower This year's voted People's Choice Award winner is not only a fabulous project but a fabulous pun! Having found party stars decorated with stars these were used to help create a wonderful observatory, complete with fancy columns and a telescope with straw legs. Plain straws were used to make candles and walls as well as rolled scrolls of what must be maps of the night sky.

British Beach HutThis entire structure has been made with brightly colored "vacation coloured" straws and then filled with everything needed at the beach, also made from straws.
Log Cabin Vignette We're The front wall of this log cabin has been created out of straws, along with the porch railings and awning support. The colorful lounge chair is also fashioned from straws, as is the post for the fishing sign.
Ferris WheelThe entire Ferris wheel is made from interlocking straws and even better, it's motorized! The Ferris wheel actually goes around!
Spring Flowers At first look clearly nothing has been made from straws or stirs but after a few minutes it becomes clear this artist found beautifully colored straws and made not only all the flowers, but foliage out of them.
Bedroom Set The bed frame of this tiny set is made of straws and the accompanying dressed has drawer pulls made from coffee stirs.
Spectacular DessertsThe tiers and center support of this fancy dessert display been made from straws -- but keep looking! All the desserts have been made from straws as well.
Masterpiece in Miniature This tiny painting has been given a modern twist. Instead of traditional framing straws were used to create a very special space for displaying the artwork.
Suchi Straws Tiny pieces of white straws have been fashioned into rice and wraps while pink straws have been trimmed into pieces of raw fish.
Light the Way With a base and center support created from straws this little lamp looks like it would be the perfect addition to the straw bedroom set.
Creative and Refreshing A drink umbrella has been used to create a shady spot to enjoy drinks, which are not only being served in drink containers made from straws but they also have their own super tiny straws!
Shower Not only has a bend straw been used to create this shower but the artist went a step further, using the bottom quarter of a paper cup (which could have a straw in it for drinking) to fashion the shower base.
Bird Feeder Using a clear straw for the center structure this bird hanging bird feeder has been made using toothpick pieces for perches and jewelry findings for the lid. It's also been filled with spices that look exactly like bird seed.
Telescope The same idea as this year's winner, this telescope has been fashioned from different sized straws glued together to create the actual telescope that was then put on a based created by coffee stirs.
Tree House Set in place in a wonderful bonsai tree, the ladder and tree house supports are straws while the house itself is constructed from a combination of coffee stir and craft sticks.
